I miss this view, but I saw it, one way or another countless times. In the case above, I was heading southeast over South America, probably towards São Paulo. Heading west out of Europe, we would be chasing the sun, but it would take a speed of about Mach 3 to keep up with it. Conversely, the high latitudes commonly used towards Europe in the summer time would result in an incomplete sunset; rather than getting completely dark, the glow would just do a circle around the North Pole, and then transition to a sunrise. Ooh, now I’m thinking of the aurora borealis. I was so lucky.
